    Check the Components

    • 1). Plug in speakers in the audio jack on the rear of the system. Turn on the computer and listen for a series of beeps. A series of three beeps indicate the ECS G31T-M motherboard cannot detect the memory. One long beep, followed by eight short beeps, indicates the motherboard cannot detect the video card.

    • 2). Turn off the computer and remove the power cable from the device panel. Disconnect any other cables connected to the system.

    • 3). Loosen the screws securing the cover to the case. Slide the cover from the case and set the cover aside. Touch the chassis to ground yourself.

    • 4). Confirm that the 20-pin or 24-pin power supply cable and 4-pin 12V power cable are securely connected to the motherboard. Confirm that the processor fan cable is securely connected to the board.

    • 5). Confirm that the cable connecting the hard drive to the motherboard is properly connected to both components. Confirm that the power supply cable is properly inserted into the hard drive.

    • 6). Check the board for any signs of visible damage, such as cracks in the board or burnt capacitors.

    • 7). Remove the screws or brackets securing the heat sink in place. Disconnect the cable connecting the processor fan to the ECS motherboard.

    • 8). Wiggle the heat sink back and forth to loosen it from the processor. Lift the heat sink from the CPU. Release the lever holding the CPU in place.

    • 9). Lift the CPU by its edges. Check the processor for any broken or bent pins. Reinstall the processor to the system, if it appears structurally sound.

    • 10

Replace the power supply. Remove the screws securing the power supply to the back of the machine. Do not disassemble the power supply itself.

    • 11

Disconnect any cables connecting the power supply to the components within the computer. Lift the power supply out of the computer. Insert a new power supply in its place.

    • 12

Screw the power supply to the case. Reconnect the power connectors to the appropriate devices. Reconnect the power cable and monitor to the computer. Press the power button to test the system.
