How to Set Up Your E-Drums for MIDI

    • 1). Connect the e-drums to your computer or hardware MIDI workstation using the MIDI/USB cable and the MIDI-out/in ports on the e-drums and workstation. This connection will allow data to move between the e-drums and the device storing the triggered sounds.

    • 2). Open your digital audio workstation or preferred hardware device and access the "I/O" settings menu. Select your e-drums as the preferred MIDI input device within this control panel. Test the connection by striking one of your e-drum pads. If your devices are configured properly, your workstation should display evidence of MIDI activation, such as a raise in volume level for the MIDI track or, if your speakers are connected, a sound.

    • 3). Select the sounds you would like to assign to each of the e-drum pads within the synthesizer or sampler sound bank you are using. After determining which sounds you will implement, assign them to your preferred place on the e-drum by inputting the number of the specific MIDI trigger (in this case, drum pad) into the synthesizer or sampler's control settings.

    • 4). Test your configuration by hitting each pad on the e-drums. If you have made the appropriate connections and successfully assigned the sounds, each drum should play your preferred tone when struck.
