Directions for Sprouting Raw Oat Groats
- 1). Put 2 cups of raw oat groats in a 2 qt. glass canning jar.
- 2). Put a piece of screen over the mouth of the jar and secure it with a rubber band.
- 3). Fill the jar half full of water. Swirl it around to rinse and clean the oat groats. Pour the water out. Fill the jar with water and leave it overnight.
- 4). Drain the jar and set it upside down at a 45 degree angle, out of direct sunlight.
- 5). Rinse the oat groats two or three times a day and put the jar back in the same position. The oat groats should begin to sprout within a day or two. They will be ready to eat when the sprout is between one and two times the length of the groat. This should happen within a few days.
- 6). Put the jar of sprouted groats in direct sunlight the day before you plan to eat them. Putting sprouts in sunlight helps them to produce chlorophyll and increases their nutritional content.
