Feng Shui is very complex and you can go really deep if you want to. But we will use Feng Shui in a simple, practical way to help you to furniture your bedroom to get a better sleep. Follow these 11 simple steps to ensure that you will get a good nights sleep.

1. Clutter:
Clear your bedroom from clutter. Don't throw your clothes around the room. The mess affects how you feel. Your bedroom is not a storage room. You need space to breathe.

The bedroom should only be used for sleep and sex.

Make your bed every day. A bed that is unmade reflects the stress in your life. The bed should be raised off the floor with enough space for air to circulate underneath. Don't store anything under the bed, it will block the energy flow.

2. Colors:
Cream, beige, caramel and brown (skin colors) are restful colors and can be used for the bedroom walls. Pink and blue are also calming.

Green, red and pure white are stimulating or bright colors, don't use them in your bedroom.

3. Door:
Make sure the bed is not in front of the bedroom door or in line with it. For safety, our prehistorical ancestors did not sleep next to the cave entrance. Our instincts haven't changed.

Diagonally opposite the door is the best place for the bed. When you are in bed you should be able to see the door without being in front of it. This will make you relax more since you feel more secure.

If you really need to have the bed in line with the door, a wind chime should be placed between the bed and the door.

4. Bedroom art:
If you want to have art in your bedroom, make sure it's something inspiring.

The images should reflect what you want to happen in your life. Don't put up sad, lonely or singular images unless that is what you want in your life. Aggressive images does not belong in the bedroom.

Don't have pictures in your room, illustrating the water. Images of water can cause insomnia. It can also bring bad luck. For the same reason do not place fish tanks and fountains in your bedroom.

5. Light:
Soft lighting is ideal. Avoid having ceiling lamps right directly over your bed. Candles with their soft light are suitable for the bedroom.

6. Mirror:
Avoid having mirrors in your bedroom. If you must have one, make sure you can't see yourself when lying on the bed, which means no mirror facing the bed. Mirrors are yang and reflects energy. To much of this energy will disrupt your sleep. Besides, the image in the mirror may not be the best when you first wake up.

Hang the mirror far away from the bed. You can also hang the mirror inside the closet door, which can be closed at night.

If you must have a mirror facing the bed, cover it up at night with a cloth.

7. Plants:
Due to their yang nature, plants should be avoided in the bedroom. If it's a large room, a small plant far away from the bed is acceptable.

8. Poison arrows:
Avoid having objects with sharp edges facing the bed. This focused energy towards your bed will disrupt your sleep. Cover up these sharp edges with a cloth.

Don't place a ceiling fan right above your bed. Like the sharp edges this concentrated energy will disrupt your sleep.

Don't place the bed under a ceiling beam. The beam has a tremendous pressure downwards and will affect your sleep. If moving the bed is not an option, you can paint the beam with the same color as the ceiling. You can also hang a bambo flute on the beam to achieve the same effect.

If your bedroom has a slanted ceiling, place your bed against the wall on the higher end.

9. Electronic items:
Avoid Televisions, computers and video games in the bedroom. If you must have it, cover it up at night with a piece of fabric. But keep them away from the bed. Do not have the phone next to the bed.

Electronic equipment generates electro-magnetic waves that can affect your sleep. All electronic items should be placed far away from the bed. That includes electrical clocks.

10. Wall:
The head of the bed should be placed against a wall. This way you have a protective wall behind you.

11. Window:
Avoid placing your bed next to the window. The energy in the room flows between the door and the window. You would be in the line of this energy flow.

If moving the bed away from the window is not possible, make sure the head of the bed is not next to the window. Closing the curtain at night will help disrupting this direct energy flow between the door and the window.
