    • 1). Turn on your iMac, and insert the Mac OS X installer DVD into the DVD drive. You must use version 10.5 or earlier with your iMac G3; versions 10.6 and later will not work on a G3 Macintosh.

    • 2). Double-click on the install icon in the DVD's Finder window, which will open automatically. Your iMac will do some initial processing, and then reboot off of the DVD.

    • 3). Follow the prompts from the installer as they appear. You will be asked which language to use for the Mac OS X install, and may be shown a registration screen to register your operating system. The installation will then proceed automatically, and a progress bar will show you an estimate of the time remaining.

    • 4). Click the "Restart" button when the installation process is completed, and the iMac will reboot off of the internal hard drive and the new copy of Mac OS X.
