Quilting Instructions for the Crown of Thorns
- 1). For one block, cut five two-and-a-half squares from dark fabric and four from light fabric.
- 2). Cut eight 2 7/8-inch squares from each dark and light fabric.
- 3). Cut each 2 7/8-inch square in half diagonally.
- 1). Join light and dark triangles to make 16 squares that are 2 1/2-inches square when finished.
- 2). Sew light and dark squares together into four groups of four (two rows of two) with all dark triangles pointing the same way.
- 3). Sew five 2 1/2-inch squares together into a strip alternating light-dark-light-dark-light.
- 4). Sew the remaining squares together into two pairs of two (dark/light).
- 1). Lay out the triangle squares to make up the corners of the block. Make sure the inner-most triangle of each is a dark fabric and the outer corner of each is a light triangle.
- 2). Join each of the upper two triangle square units in this configuration to a square pair so that the dark square will be closer to the middle. Join the lower two triangle square units in the same way, again so the dark square of the square pair will be closer to the middle.
- 3). Join these upper and lower units to the strip of squares. The middle light square in the strip will also be the middle of the block.
- 4). It will take 30 of these blocks, alternated with plain light fabric blocks and a 10-inch border of dark fabric all around to make a full-size quilt.
