How to Install Trolling Motor Batteries
- 1). Place the two trolling motor batteries next to each other in the craft's battery compartment.
- 2). Connect the black cable to the first battery's negative terminal. Either open the clamp using your hand and then place the clamp over the terminal and release the pressure; or if the clamp fixes to the terminal using a nut a bolt, place the round clamp over the terminal until it fits tightly. Then use a wrench to tighten the nut and bolt. The battery terminal is clearly labeled "Neg." You should also find a black plastic ring around the terminal to make identification easier.
- 3). Connect the opposite end of the black battery cable to the second battery's negative terminal. Use your hand or a wrench, depending on the type of clamp on the end of cable.
- 4). Connect the end of a red battery cable to the first battery's positive terminal. Use your hand or a wrench, depending on the type of clamp on the end of the cable. The battery terminal is clearly labeled "Pos." It also often features a red plastic ring around it, making identification easier.
- 5). Connect the opposite end of the red battery cable to the second battery's negative terminal. Use your hand or a wrench, depending on the type of clamp on the end of the battery cable.
- 6). Locate the two battery cables that are connected to your trolling vessel in the battery compartment. One is red, the other black.
- 7). Put the clamp on the end of the black cable over the negative terminal of the second trolling battery and tighten using a wrench. Put the clamp on the end of the red cable over the positive terminal of the second trolling battery and tighten using a wrench.
