How to Create Secure Disk Images in Snow Leopard
- 1). Open the Applications folder, then the Utilities folder, then double-click "Disk Utility."
- 2). Click "File," then "New," followed by "Blank Disk Image."
- 3). Enter the desired name of the new disk image and select the location that you would like to store your new disk image using the file browser window.
- 4). Enter the display name that you would like listed when the image is mounted in the "Name" text box.
- 5). Set the size of the disk image using the "Size" drop-down menu. To enter a custom size, click "Custom" and specify the size of the the disk image.
- 6). Click a file format from the "Format" drop-down menu. In most instances, "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is the appropriate choice, however, if you would like to open the image on both Mac and PC systems, select "MS-DOS (FAT)."
- 7). Click either 128-bit or 256-bit encryption from the "Encryption" drop-down menu. 256-bit encryption is more secure, however the disk image creation process takes much longer.
- 8). Set the image format which allows you to make the image writable or write protected from the "Image Format" drop-down menu. Choose "Sparse" image if you would like to disk image size to conform to the size of the data contained in the image.

Enter the desired password for the disk image and enter it again in the "Confirmation" box. - 11
Remove the tick beside "Remember Password" if you would like to computer to not remember the password and then click "OK."
