How to Hook Up a Drain for a Washing Machine
- 1). Unplug the washing machine if it is currently plugged in to prevent accidental shocks.
- 2). Move the washing machine away from the wall, if needed, so that you can reach the drain equipment behind. Protect the floor by placing furniture coasters underneath the legs of the washer.
- 3). Unclip the hose from the rear of the washer if it is secured in place. Remove any ties or other packing materials.
- 4). Insert the gooseneck portion of the drain hose into the wall drain. Some drains feature an accordion type top that locks firmly into the opening in the drain pipe.
- 5). Secure the drain hose in place with plastic cable ties or any ties that were included with the washing machine.
- 6). Move the washing machine back to its original location. Plug the power cord back in.
- 7). Start the machine and run a short load. Watch the drain on the machine as it runs through the cycle and check to make sure it is draining properly. Adjust the gooseneck in the drain opening, if required.
