    • 1). Rub your finger over the paint chip carefully to determine if the chip extends below the paint. Depressions and rough edges typically indicate chips that go deeper than just the paint.

    • 2). Wash the dinner plate in warm soapy water to remove food particles, oils and grease.

    • 3). Dry the dinner plate with a dishcloth.

    • 4). Dip a cotton swab into acetone and wipe the chip. Acetone will remove any remaining oils, grease or particles of dirt.

    • 5). Blend two-part epoxy in a small paper cup or on a sheet of wax paper if the chip extends into the plate itself. Dip a flat toothpick into the epoxy and spread it over the chip, building the epoxy layer-by-layer until it sits flush with the plate's surface. Dip a cotton swab in acetone and clean the edges of the repair to remove excess epoxy. Let the epoxy repair dry for three to four hours.

    • 6). Match a nontoxic porcelain paint marker to the color of the dinner plate. Shake the paint marker, remove the cap and blot the paint onto a paper towel.

    • 7). Place the tip of the porcelain paint marker in the center of the chip and lightly stroke the paint toward the outer edges of the chip. Continue to apply the porcelain paint until paint conceals the chip. Let the porcelain paint dry or 10 to 12 hours before using the dinner plate.
