My HP Pavilion DV2000 Laptop Won't Play CDs or DVDs
- 1). Insert a disc into the disc drive of the HP Pavilion DV2000. If the laptop states it is a new CD, even though you know there is data recorded onto the disc, it is due to the disc not being "closed" when the data was originally recorded onto the disc. There isn't anything you can do about this, however when this error message appears, you know it is not an issue with the laptop, but instead with the CD.
- 2). Clean off the bottom of the CD/DVD. If the disc has debris (such as hair or dirt) stuck to it, the computer may be unable to read the contents of the disc.
- 3). Spray a few shots of compressed air into the drive, towards the reading lens. If the lens has dust building up on it the computer is unable to read just about any disc inserted into the drive.
- 4). Check the DVD format of the disc being used (such as DVD-R or DVD+R). If the DVD format is not supported by the computer, the HP Pavilion DV2000 is unable to use or read the disc. Check the format information listed the systems user manual because different versions of the DV2000 have different stipulations regarding the DVD drive.
- 5). Reinstall the disc drivers for your HP Pavilion DV2000. The drivers may have accidently been removed from the system and, without the drivers, the computer is unable to detect the inserted disc. Open the Internet browser on the computer, navigate to HP.com, choose "Support," then click "Downloads and Drivers." Type in "HP Pavilion DV2000" as the model and click "OK." Select the operating system running on the computer, then choose the "Drivers" option. Locate the disc drive drivers and select the download link. Once downloaded, double-click the file and choose "Install." The drivers install onto the computer and the disc drive is ready to function once again.
