How to Replace Peel & Stick Tile
- 1). Remove all traces of the broken or cracked tile. Use a putty knife to scrape the remainder of the tile off the floor if necessary. Cover the tile with a towel and use an iron on high heat to help loosen the glue and make the tile easier to scrape up with the putty knife.
- 2). Use a vacuum to remove any debris on the floor. Make sure your surface is clean and dry before attempting to stick on a new tile, or your new tile will not adhere and you will need to replace it again. Use an all purpose cleaner and a scrub brush to remove any stuck debris. Do not soak with water since it will take a long time to dry thoroughly and excess water could get down underneath the other tiles and cause more damage.
- 3). Place the new tile in the empty space. Make sure you have the pattern going in the right direction if there is a definite top and bottom to the pattern in the tiles.
- 4). Pull the protective paper off the back of the tile. Place the tile in the space lightly. Make sure the tile is lined up with the edges of the other tiles properly and as snugly as possible to prevent gaps between the tiles.
- 5). Lay a towel over top of the new tile. Use a rolling pin to press on the tile firmly and roll the pin back and forth six to eight times to help the new tile stick to the floor.
- 6). Lift the towel and set aside. Try to grab a corner of the tile with your fingernail. Pull up lightly to make sure the tile is secure. Be careful not to actually pull up the tile. Apply pressure with the rolling pin again if necessary.
