Burndy Mechanical Lug Torque Specs
- Burndy began its company in 1924. The company specializes in engineering and manufacturing electrical connectors and wiring accessories. It also offer connections, or lugs, that hold electrical wiring in place.
- A mechanical lug connection must have a specific applied torque. Torque specifications depend upon the material of the bolt being applied to the lug, as well as the size of the bolt. For example, a 0.75 inch steel bolt requires 1,050 inch-pounds of torque. But, for a 0.75 inch aluminum bolt, the torque requirement is much lower, at 650 inch-pounds.
- The connection between the electrical wire and the bolt/lug securing point must use compatible materials, such as aluminum matched with aluminum alloy. The matched materials will then have less of a tendency to corrode or react with one another.
