How to Design Your Own Acoustic Guitar Strap
- 1). Sit down and hold your acoustic guitar in a playing position. Run a measuring tape from the strap pin on the guitar around your back and over your left shoulder to the neck nut on the guitar. Note the number of inches in this measurement. This will be the length of your acoustic guitar strap.
- 2). Add 3 to 4 inches to the measurement you found in Step 1. Cut three lengths of parachute cord to this measurement, and knot them together at one end.
- 3). Braid the parachute cords together, and knot them at the end when you are finished. Weave a piece of string through each end of the braided cord.
- 4). Measure the width of your acoustic guitar strap, and make a corresponding slit in the left and right sides of the 4-by-4 inch leather square about an inch from each edge. Pull the guitar strap through the underside of the leather square through one slit, and thread it downward through the second slit. The strap should rest on top of the leather square.
- 5). Position the leather square on the acoustic guitar strap so it will pad your shoulder. Tie your acoustic guitar strap to the guitar by tying one string to the strap pin and the other string to the guitar neck, behind the nut.
