How to Make Fishtail Swag Curtains
- 1). Cut fabric and lining fabric twice the height you want plus the width. Your height can range from 1/2-way to the full height of the window.
- 2). Fold the fabric in half lengthwise. With the fold to the right, measure from the top left corner (away from the fold) 10 inches and mark. Draw a line from this mark to the bottom-left corner (away from the fold). Cut off the triangular pieces of fabric. Unfold and you will have a trapezoidal shape. The longest side is the bottom.
- 3). Place the fabric and lining right side together and sew a 1/2-inch seam, leaving a 4-inch gap to turn the fabric. Turn the fabric right side out. Iron the seams, turning the 4-inch gap fabric to the inside. Sew all around the fabric a second time 1/4-inch from the edge.
- 4). Lay your swag with the longest bottom edge closest to you. Pleat 2-inch pleats evenly across the swag. Lift the pleats carefully and space them evenly on the swag hooks so that the longest point is toward the back. Adjust the swag by gently tugging the top pleats to achieve the look you want.
