How to Repair Window Casing
- 1). Wipe the window casing with a damp sponge to remove dirt and dust from the surface. If the window casing is in the kitchen and subject to grease splatter, clean the casing with dishwashing liquid and water to ensure no grease remains.
- 2). Place a small amount of wood putty on the end of a plastic putty knife and press the putty into the dent, hole or crack on the window casing that needs repair. If the putty does not completely fill the hole or crack, continue applying putty until you've completely filled the crack or hole.
- 3). Allow the wood putty to dry completely. Drying time is dependent on the temperature and humidity in the room, but the surface of the wood putty will lighten as it dries. An hour or two is usually plenty of time for small areas to dry.
- 4). Sand the repaired area by hand with fine-grit sandpaper or a fine-grit sanding block until the repaired area is smooth to the touch and blends completely with the rest of the window casing.
- 5). Wipe away the sanding dust with a microfiber cloth.
- 6). Touch up the repaired area with paint or stain that matches the casing's original color.
