How to Troubleshoot a Maytag Ice Box
- 1). Examine the power cord to see if it has come unplugged. Plug the Maytag refrigerator into a grounded three-prong outlet and replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if needed.
- 2). Turn the controls on and adjust the temperature to a point cold enough to cool food in the refrigerator or freeze items in the freezer, if the refrigerator has power but seems too warm. Close the doors and minimize the number of times the doors are opened, as this allows warm air to enter the unit.
- 3). Look to see if food, bins or drawers are blocking the door from forming a seal when closed, if the door is not shutting properly. Dampen a clean cloth and wipe the rubber gasket on the door to clean.
- 4). Turn the water shutoff valve, located at the rear of the refrigerator and connected to the water line, on fully if there is no water or ice or the ice is small or hollow. Straighten out the water line and make sure the ice maker is turned on. Look for any ice cubes blocking the ejector arm and remove with a plastic utensil.
- 5). Replace the current water filter with a new one if the ice or water does not taste good. Make sure food items are closed or covered and clean the refrigerator interior with a mixture of baking soda and water. Throw out the current bin of ice and wipe down the bin with the baking soda and water mixture. Rinse well and dry before putting the ice bin back into position.
- 6). Take out the ice bin and reposition it into place if the ice dispenser is not working and is turned on. Check for ice cubes clogging the chute and look for ice cubes that may have melted around the auger. If this has occurred, remove and empty the ice bin. Fill with warm water to melt the ice.
- 7). Flush the water system by holding a container under the water dispenser and dispensing water for three minutes if the water does not taste good after a recent filter change.
