    Relieving Fuel System Pressure

    • 1). Release the fuel system pressure if your Stanza comes equipped with an electronic fuel injection (EFI) system. Depending on your particular model, remove the fuel pump fuse (in the fuse box under the instrument panel) or fuel pump relay (mounted on the firewall or power center inside the engine compartment) or unplug the electrical fuel pump connection located behind the utility door in the rear right-hand side.

    • 2). Loosen the fuel filler cap.

    • 3). Start the engine and let it stall.

    • 4). Crank the engine for 3 seconds to relieve the remaining fuel pressure from the system.

    • 5). Disconnect the black battery cable using a wrench.

    • 6). Remove the key from the ignition and replace the fuel pump fuse or fuel pump relay or plug in the electrical fuel pump connection.

    Replacing the fuel filter

    • 1). Locate the fuel filter inside the engine compartment, on the passenger's side, next to the inner fender well or firewall, depending on your particular model. If you have a Stanza wagon, raise the rear passenger side of the vehicle with a floor jack, support it on a jack stand and locate the filter near the fuel tank.

    • 2). Loosen the clamps from the filter outlet and inlet hoses using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3). Wrap a shop rag around the hoses as you pull each hose from the fuel-filter nipple to absorb any fuel remaining in the lines.

    • 4). Secure the inlet hose to an adjacent component with a wire to keep it on a higher level than the fuel tank to prevent gasoline from draining through the hose.

    • 5). Loosen the fuel-filter mounting clamp with the Phillips screwdriver and remove the filter from the vehicle.

    • 6). Install the new filter with the flow arrow on the filter pointing upward or away from the fuel tank.

    • 7). Tighten the fuel filter clamp using the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 8). Push the outlet and inlet hoses over the filter nipples.

    • 9). Secure the inlet and outlet hoses to the filter using the Phillips screwdriver. If your Stanza comes equipped with electronic fuel injection system, install new hose clamps.

    • 10

Lower your vehicle, if you had to raise it, using the floor jack.

    • 11

      Tighten the fuel filler cap.

    • 12

Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the filter.
