Why Your Brain Can Make You Fat

Oh, I can hear you now. "Well Einstein; my brain tells me I'm hungry, so I eat (a little more than I should sometimes) and... Presto! Hello Thunder Thighs, the Spare Tire and those wonderful Love Handles we all adore so much." Right? Wrong! As it turns out, there's actually a little piece of your brain that may be telling you, not only, to eat junk but also to eat too much of it.

You might be asking your self "What in the world is this little area in my brain and how do I remove it?" The area is in fact a gland called the hypothalamus, but you really might not want to get it removed because doing that would just lead to bigger problems. Bigger problems like being six feet under in a large wooden box. Yes, the hypothalamus although being small, about the size of a pea plays a significant part in keeping you healthy and making sure the body functions properly. Having this gland become unbalanced will lead to a world of trouble, one of which is some unhappy bulges developing in areas you probably don't want.

The main function that the hypothalamus performs is linking the nervous system with your endocrine system. The endocrine system, made up of all kinds of glands and organs like the thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, pituitary glands and many others is the system that regulates most of your body weight. If the hypothalamus which regulates the endocrine system gets whacked out, the results can be constant food cravings, a very low metabolism, and your body tending to store "secure fat reserves" rather than discard them.

The body stores these so called "secure fat reserves" in the most problematic areas and considers fat in those areas to be types of fat that is last in line to be burned up. This is the reason why normal diets that advise you to reduce calories or prohibit certain foods don't work. Another interesting point is that because the hypothalamus gland primarily controls the bodies weight set point, it explains why when such diets are finished most people gain back the weight that they had loss during the diet.

You might be asking yourself the question, how a hypothalamus gland turns from good to evil? The gland can become taxed and worn out either directly by what you do or indirectly. Some of these ways would include not getting enough normal daily exercise like walking, having a colon that is clogged, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, eating food that is heavily processed and full of harmful chemicals, growth hormones, antibiotics and other unnatural substances, just to name a few of them. This problem has increased a lot of the past several decades in part primarily because the food industry we all rely on has undergone massive changes moving form the local farm to huge corporations looking to make profits, not good food.

You can be thankful though because like any other sickness that can be remedied, the hypothalamus gland can be brought back to it's proper setting. This is the case because food is the main reason the gland becomes unbalanced so therefore changing the food you eat will help change the gland, conditioning it back to normal. An easy change to all organic food, and fleeing from fast food and heavily processed foods can make a big impact. It's also advisable to consider liver and colon cleanses as well as certain detoxes.

Developing weekly workout routines or even just an hour walk on a regular basis also helps a great deal. The bottom line is: resetting the hypothalamus treats the cause not the symptom. Granted this may be a start of a new path for a lot of you. But take this one and it may be the last one you have to in order to reach and maintain your weight loss goal.
