      LPN to RN degree programs provide advanced nurse training to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) interested in becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). In the State of Louisiana, state-approved LPN to RN programs are regulated and maintained by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Several state-approved programs are available across the state, most of which are located in four-year colleges and state universities.

    Our Lady of the Lake College

    • Our Lady of the Lake College, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution's School of Nursing offers a two-year LPN to RN bridge program that is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. The program, which prepares students to take the national NCLEX-RN licensure examination for Registered Nurses, requires that students complete a series of general education and science courses in English composition, algebra, physiology, microbiology, chemistry and psychology. In addition, the college requires that students take core nursing courses in pharmacology, mental health nursing and a transition course which trains students for a professional transition to become an RN.

    Northwestern State University

    • Northwestern State University, with a primary campus located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, is a member of the University of Louisiana System. The school's College of Nursing, located on a satellite campus in Shreveport, offers an LPN to RN degree program approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing which leads to a two-year associate's degree. Students are required to take prerequisite courses in finite mathematics, biology, chemistry, communications and transitional nursing. After completing prerequisite courses, students must take core nursing courses in pharmacology, developmental psychology, applied nursing processes and humanistic nursing care. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to sit for the national NCLEX-RN examination.

    • Southeastern Louisiana University, located in Hammond, Louisiana, is a public institution accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to grant undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees. The School of Nursing offers a two-year LPN to RN bridge program that is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Students enrolled in the program must complete a slate of science courses, including biology and chemistry, before completing core nursing courses in transitional nursing, mental health nursing care, pharmacology, transitional pediatrics and nursing applications. Students who complete the program are eligible to sit for the national NCLEX-RN licensure examination.
