How to Add Family to an Existing Section 8
- 1). Contact your landlord or public housing authority to inform them of a change in your family's composition.
- 2). Provide the owner or agent with any requested documents. According to Part 5, Subpart F, Section 5.659 of the Code of Federal Regulations, these documents can include proof of citizenship or eligible immigration status or any other documents the owner or agent feels is necessary and in accordance with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development regulations.
- 3). Sign the consent and asset declaration forms. The owner or agent will verify the documentation and provide you with a copy of the HUD fact sheet explaining how your rent is determined based on the changes in your family composition. The owner or agent will notify you of any rent increases within 30 days of your recertification interview.
