The Uses for an Outdoor Thermometer
- Gauge temperatures in a walk-freezer with outdoor thermometers, as they are most useful for measuring the temperature of a specific area. These walk-in freezers can be found in restaurants or laboratories. Install the thermometer on a wall the farthest from the door so that the temperature measured by the thermometer is not effected by the freezer door opening and closing.
- Using an outdoor thermometer in a greenhouse is a great way to regulate the temperature and humidity for the health of the plants you have growing in there. Buying two or three outdoor thermometers for the greenhouse is also a good idea, as you can see if the temperature is uniform around the greenhouse or if one of the thermometers isn't working, if their temperatures are drastically different. Affix these thermometers in the middle of the greenhouse, away from any doors or windows that may affect their temperature readings.
- Measuring the temperature of pool water can also be done with an outdoor thermometer. Simply slip a string through the screw hole on the plastic casing that holds most of the outdoor thermometers and drop it into the pool water on the side of the pool. As the temperature of the pool raises and lowers the ethyl alcohol in the outdoor thermometer should reflect this. Make sure the thermometer is properly secured though--you don't want it breaking in the pool.
