How to Make a Bamboo Privacy Screen

    • 1). Cut a 4-by-6-inch beam the length of the screen you want to build less 2 inches.

    • 2). Place the beam with the 6 inch side down. Drill holes in the top of the beam using a variety of drill bits ranging from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches wide. Drill your holes at slight angles in a random layout all the way across the beam. Clean out all of holes.

    • 3). Measure the length and width of the beam and cut a 1-by-6-inch board to fit around the beam with the holes of the beam facing up. Nail a 1-by-6-inch board along each side. Fill your nail holes and sand and stain the sides and top of the 1-by-6-inch boards. Finish with a clear coat. Allow the clear coat 24 hours to dry.

    • 4). Fit bamboo sticks into the holes in the beam. Do not cut your bamboo until you are finished. Fill all of your holes with bamboo. This should give you a random, forest-like effect.

    • 5). Mark any sticks you need to trim. Remove these one at a time and trim them (this way you won't have to start over fitting sticks in holes). When you are satisfied, remove each stick, apply construction adhesive into the hole and replace the stick in the hole.

    • 6). Fill in around the sticks with smooth pebbles. Lift the screen from the bottom of the box and position it indoor or outdoors where you need screening.
