    How the Pores Become Clogged

    • Human skin naturally produces sebum or oil to maintain moisture and protect the skin from bacterial infection. Sometimes when your skin makes a large amount of sebum, it gets mixed with skin debris, becomes solidified and clogs your pores. Accordingly these clogged pores turn into blackheads, whiteheads or pimples. This can happen not only on the facial area, but on the back and chest as well.

      Similarly, pores on other body areas can get clogged. Wearing tight-fitting clothes too often, using oil-based skin products and not scrubbing off dead skin can all contribute to the pore-clogging problem. Since skin can eliminate toxins simply through perspiration, lack of exercise or lack of sweating also cause skin debris and unwanted particles to get trapped in pores.

    Cleaning Clogged Pores on the Face

    • If you have stubborn blackheads, try this homemade facial mask recipe. Heat one tablespoon of unflavored gelatin with 1½ tablespoons of milk in a microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. Stir until well-blended and apply over clogged pores. Wait until the homemade mask dries, then carefully peel it off.

      If you have excessive dry skin and want to decrease the amount of skin debris, you may find the following homemade cleanser to be effective. Make a paste by combining one teaspoon each of milk powder, egg white and lemon juice. Apply the cleanser to your face, avoiding the areas around your eyes. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse the cleanser off with warm water.

      To maintain healthy skin and prevent pores from getting clogged, wash your face with gentle soap twice a day. Use oil-free facial products and avoid wearing makeup. Consuming foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots and spinach, can also reduce sebum production and lower the formation of acne.

    Cleaning Clogged Pores on the Body

    • Although clogged pores on the body do not cause acne, they do rob the skin of its natural radiance. Dry skin brushing is a great way to clean the pores and revitalize your skin. Two or three times a week, before you get in the shower -- when your skin is dry -- brush your entire body (except your chest) in a circular motion with a soft-bristled brush. Then rinse off all the dirt and debris in a warm shower.

      Another effective way to eliminate toxins and wastes from your skin is to sweat them out. Daily exercise not only helps you clean those pores by making you sweat, but also improves your blood circulation and overall health. If working out is not your thing, going to a sauna once or twice a week is a good alternative for skin health.
