    Relieve the Fuel System Pressure

    • 1). Remove the rear seat cushion by releasing the two cushion retainers by hand. The retainers are located on the floor.

    • 2). Unscrew and remove the fuel pump cover on the floor using a Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 3). Unplug the fuel pump electrical connector.

    • 4). Start the engine and wait until it stalls from lack of fuel. Then turn off the ignition.

    • 5). Open the hood and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable using a wrench.

    • 6). Reconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.

    • 7). Replace the fuel pump cover using the Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 8). Replace the rear seat cushion with the two cushion retainers.

    Replace the Fuel Filter

    • 1). Raise the rear passenger side wheel/tire assembly using a floor jack and support it with a jack stand under the frame.

    • 2). Locate the filter on the frame rail near the fuel tank and in front of the rear passenger side wheel. Make a note of the filter mounting position so that you install the new filter in the same position.

    • 3). Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter. Wrap a shop rag around the fittings as you disconnect each line. Depress the buttons on the line fittings and pull the line from the filter.

    • 4). Unscrew the filter bracket from the frame using a ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

    • 5). Remove the filter and mounting bracket from the vehicle.

    • 6). Install the new filter and mounting bracket on the frame, using the ratchet, ratchet extension and socket.

    • 7). Connect the fuel lines to the filter by pushing the line fittings against the filter nipples. You should hear the line fittings snap into place. Slightly pull on the line to make sure the fittings are locked into place.

    • 8). Lower your Kia using the floor jack.

    • 9). Connect the negative (black) battery cable using the wrench and close the hood.

      Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the filter.
