How to Separate Spaces in Rooms
- 1). Create separate spaces in a room with area rugs. Position the rugs in different directions to make a distinct area for each space.
- 2). Hang a lighting fixture or chandelier over a table to help differentiate one space from another.
- 3). Use the furniture to define each space by thoughtfully and carefully arranging each area, such as one area for reading, one for lounging and one for eating.
- 4). Place a screen between the areas you want to separate. Use a semitranslucent screen for some visibility.
- 5). Create a free-standing, double-sided bookcase to store books and decorative items and to separate one area of the room from another.
- 6). Use a row of tall plants or trees such as ficus or palms to add a natural touch to the room while separating spaces.
