What is Silk Screening?
- To make a silk screen, a mesh is stretched over a frame. A design will then be created onto this mesh screen.
- Once a design is created, ink is daubed onto the mesh. The ink is then pressed into the design with a squeegee, and the impression will be hung out to dry.
- A mesh doesn't have to be used to create a silk screen. Paper, plastics, or painting on glue can also be used.
- Silk zcreens can oftentimes be reused. If it isn't reused, it can be washed. A new design created on the screen.
- To create layering effects, the screen can be used multiple times with various colors.
- Andy Warhol made the use of silk screening popular in the 1960s with his images of Marilyn Monroe.
