How to Add Memory to an HP Pavilion Model 6736
- 1). Turn off your HP Pavilion 6736 desktop. Disconnect the monitor, keyboard and other devices from the tower. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet and the computer. Clip one end of an anti-static strap to a bare metal area and attach the strap to your wrist.
- 2). Remove the two screws securing the side panel to the computer with a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are at the top and bottom of the back of the computer on the right side. Set the screws aside somewhere safe for reassembly.
- 3). Place the computer on one side with the removable side panel facing up. Slide the panel off the tower and set it aside. Press down on the tabs on each side of the memory module to release the locking tab. Pull straight up to remove the memory module.
- 4). Push the new module into place by pressing it straight down into place. Lock the tabs on each end of the memory module to secure it in place.
- 5). Replace the side panel until it clicks in place. Stand the tower upright. Secure the side panel with the screws and tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 6). Reattach the monitor, keyboard and other devices. Attach the power cord to the computer, then plug the cord into the wall outlet. Turn on the HP 6736 so the system board recognizes the new memory module.
