How to Choose a Dorm Room Air Purifier
- 1). Choose an air purifier that is lightweight and has wheels. This will make it easier for you to move it across your room.
- 2). Select an air purifier that can run for 24 hours. These types of air purifiers can prevent airborne pollutants and other particles from building up in your dorm room while you are away. Look for labels on the package that say: "24-hour air quality monitor" or "split capacitor motor for 24-hour continuous use." Ask an employee in the hardware store to help you choose the right air purifier.
- 3). Select a low-maintenance air purifier. College life is always so busy and stressful as it is and you don't need to spend time cleaning or replacing filters. Avoid air purifiers that require monthly filter replacement, charging or washing. Again, ask a store employee to help you choose the best one.
- 4). Select an air purifier that has a HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arresting) filter that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. HEPA filters can destroy airborne microorganisms that can cause illness. Make sure you look for air purifiers that have a label that says "Approved by FDA" or "FDA-approved HEPA filter."
