How to Calculate Linear Square Feet for Construction
- 1). Measure the length in feet of the object or area that you are calculating.
- 2). Measure the width of the object or area in feet.
- 3). Multiply the two measurements together to obtain the square footage. For example, a space that is 10 feet by 12 feet is 120 square feet.
- 4). Obtain a more exact calculation by measuring in inches, then multiplying the square inches by 0.00694 to obtain square feet. This is useful for measurements that do not measure exactly in feet. For example, if you have something that is 10 feet 3 inches by 12 feet 2 inches, you can round to 10 and 12 feet and obtain 120 square feet. If you measure by inches, however, you get the much more accurate total of 124.63 square feet.
