How to Install an Acoustic Feather Pickup
- 1). Remove the strings from your guitar if possible. It will make the entire process easier, because it requires a lot of reaching inside the guitar's body. Loosen the strings by turning the tuning heads before you remove them. If you have small hands, you may not need to remove the strings, but attaching the pickup will be uncomfortable for most people with the strings in place.
- 2). Stick your adhesive to the pickup end of the Feather Pickup. The pickup end has a flat oval receiver attached to a wire. The idea is to get this receiver pressed up against the guitar's body, so apply adhesive as required. If you're using sticky tape you can simply place a piece over the oval so the edges of the tape protrude and can be used to affix the pickup to the guitar. If you are using putty, try to spread it so it protrudes from the edges of the pickup and can be stuck to your guitar.
- 3). Reach inside your guitar's sound hole and locate the underside of the bridge. You will need to affix the pickup to the underside of the bridge. The bridge is on the body of the guitar where the strings disappear into the guitar. On most acoustics, there will be a series of six pins stuck in the bridge of the guitar, and these can be felt on the underside. Secure the pickup to the underside of the bridge, making sure it remains in place when you pull your hand away.
- 4). Pull the jack end out of the guitar's body. You can have this connection protruding from the guitar's sound hole, or alternatively you can drill a 3/8 inch hole in the guitar's body and fit the jack in there. If you've used adhesive putty when installing your Feather Pickup, you can secure the input jack in the hole using any leftover putty.
- 5). Plug your guitar lead into your new input jack and connect it up to your amp to test out the Acoustic Feather.
