How to Pick and Apply Eye Makeup
- 1). Identify which eye shadow colors look best on you. Instead of analyzing your eye color to do this, use your hair color to help determine which shades are for you. Brunettes look best with chocolate and mocha shades, blonds look great in cream and taupe shades, while redheads look outstanding with copper, peach and lavender. Choose three corresponding shades of eye shadow, with light, medium and dark tones.
- 2). Apply some pressed powder over your eyelid. This will create a better canvas for the eye makeup and will make the shadow go on smoother and bolder.
- 3). Use a sponge-tipped applicator to apply the medium-toned eye shadow over your entire eyelid. Flip the applicator over and use the clean side to sweep the light-toned color over the lids below the crease and below the brow bone to highlight. Emphasize the crease by using an eye shadow brush to apply the dark tone over it. Blend all colors together with a clean eye shadow brush. You should not be able to easily tell where one color ends and another begins.
- 4). Use the correct color of liner and mascara for your eye shape. Large eyes can play up any colors, while small eyes should stay away from black because it will look much too severe. Line the lower lid with eyeliner and, if you have large eyes, line the top lid right up against the lash line.
- 5). Apply two coats of mascara to your bottom and top lashes. Allow thirty seconds to pass between each coat to ensure the mascara dries completely.
