How to Set Up a Network in Vista
- 1). Remove the AC adapters from the modem and router. Shut down Windows Vista.
- 2). Insert one end of an Internet cable into the Internet jack on the rear of your modem. Insert the other end into the "WAN," "WLAN," "Cable" or "Internet" port on the rear of your router.
- 3). Screw a coaxial cable into the cable jack on the wall. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the modem. If you are using a wired router, insert an Internet cable into one of the numbered jacks on the rear of the router. Insert the other end of the cable into the back of your desktop, or the side of your laptop.
- 4). Reconnect to the modem and router their respective AC adapters.
- 5). Power on the computer and log into Windows Vista as an administrator. Insert into the optical drive any software that came with the router. If you disabled autoplay on your computer, click "Start," then click "Computer." Double-click the disc drive.
- 6). Follow the onscreen instructions to install the router to your system. Write down any password assigned to the router and store the information in a safe place.
- 7). Click "Start." Click "Network." Select "Connect to a network" from the side panel. Choose your network from the list.
- 8). Click "Start." Right-click "Computer." Scroll to "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings."
- 9). Click "Change settings." Click "Change." Enter a name for your network into the "Workgroup" field. Click "OK."

Click "Start." Type "Network" into the search field. Click "Network and Sharing Center." Expand the options below "Sharing and Discovery" to configure your sharing options. - 11
Test your connection. Launch your web browser and attempt to navigate to a website. If the website fails to load, check all connections to confirm that they are secure.
