How to Make Textured Walls With Drywall Compound
- 1). Stir the joint compound with an electric drill equipped with a stirring bit attachment. Add 1 to 2 cups of water to thin the joint compound to the consistency of wallpaper paste.
- 2). Fill the center of a drywall palette with the joint compound, leaving the outer 3 to 4 inches empty. This will allow you space on the palette to work with the joint compound and will also make it lighter to hold.
- 3). Dig some joint compound from the palette onto the serrated edge of a small drywall trowel. Use a swirling motion with the trowel to create a textured pattern on the wall. Swirl the trowel in different directions and overlap the swirls to cover the entire surface. Work from one corner of the wall, top to bottom. Move across the wall to ensure that you cover every part of it. The wall can be painted after it dries 24 hours or left natural.
