How To Change the Oil Pan in Dodge Raider
- 1). Jack up the Raider using the front jack point located behind the radiator.
- 2). Support the Dodge Raider on jack stands. Place the jack stands (1 each) underneath the front pinch welds located under the driver and passenger-side doors. Lower the Raider onto the jack stands.
- 3). Remove the oil pan dip stick. Open the hood and pull the dip stick out from the top as though you were checking the oil level.
- 4). Remove the oil pan drain bolt with a socket wrench--turning it counterclockwise to remove--and drain the oil into the catch pan.
- 5). Reach up above the oil pan and locate the oil filter. Remove the oil filter by turning it counterclockwise. Oil will leak from the filter opening as you remove it. This is normal.
- 6). Replace the oil pan drain bolt to prevent dripping while you are working.
- 7). Locate the bolts holding the exhaust piping to the exhaust manifold. Remove these bolts and drop the exhaust piping down.
- 8). Remove the bolts holding the oil pan to the engine and drop the oil pan down.
- 9). Scrape off the old gasket material from the mating surfaces on both the engine and the oil pan. Make sure you do not mar the mating surfaces.
- 10
Clean the mating surface on the engine and the oil pan with degreaser. Remove as much oil and residue as you can. You'll want an oil-free surface when mating the oil pan to the engine block so that there is a tight seal to prevent leaks. - 11
Apply RTV sealant to the four corners of the oil pan. - 12
Center the oil pan gasket over the mating surface of the oil pan and press the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block. - 13
Insert and re-tighten the oil pan bolts. - 14
Bolt the exhaust piping back to the exhaust manifold. - 15
Replace the oil filter and the oil pan dipstick. - 16
Unscrew the oil filler cap on the top of the engine and refill the engine with oil. - 17
Turn the engine on and check for any leaks.
