WiFi Settings

Press the "Sleep/Wake" button to turn on the iPad. Tap "Settings" and then tap "Network." Tap the "WiFi" button and slide the slider to "On" to detect available wireless networks. A list of all available networks appears that are in range of the iPad. The password-protected networks have a lock icon next to them, while the public networks do not. Tap on the network and enter the password. One easy solution to WiFi password problems is to turn off WiFi in the "Settings" menu and then turn it back on again.

Typing and Caps Lock

One reason a WiFi network password may not gain access to the network is by typing it incorrectly or having the Caps Lock on. The on-screen keyboard is sensitive, so try typing one key at a time and place the tip of the finger center on the key. Turn off Caps Lock on the on-screen keyboard by tapping "Settings" on the home screen and then tapping "Keyboard." Move the slider to "Off" next to Caps Lock.

Wireless Router

When a wireless router is first set up in a home network, a password is created to encrypt the connection. This password may need to be reset or may have become reset due to technical issues or hardware malfunction. Reset the wireless router password by reading the manual instructions that came with the device, calling the technical support phone number, or searching online on an Internet-connected computer. If using WEP security on the router and there are many WEP keys, configure the Wi-Fi router to use only a single WEP key in key index 1. Instead of WEP, use WPA or WPA2 instead, since these encryption protocols are newer and more effective than WEP.

Subscription WiFi

A subscription WiFi network is a public network found at hotels, libraries, coffee shops and other places that requires a subscription or payment to access. The password can be obtained by the network location after the subscription is purchased. To make the purchase, tap the "Safari" icon to open the browser window and access the login Web page. Tap the connection option to purchase the subscription. Enter the payment information to receive the password. Type the password into the WiFi network login and tap "Join." The iPad will store the subscription information for the wireless network.
