My 1987 Ford Ranger Won't Turn Over
- 1). Remove the key from the ignition and soak it in water to be sure that it is clean enough to turn. You can also soak it in ice to get the key to contract, in case it has expanded due to increased handling.
- 2). Spray the ignition cylinder and the key with WD-40 to allow it to turn more easily. You can also insert a wire into the ignition to be sure there is nothing preventing it from turning.
- 3). Remove the paneling around the cylinder to be sure that there is nothing holding it back.
- 4). Get the wheels into a straight position. You can do this by turning the wheel hard in both directions, and by making sure the car is shifted in park. You can also put the parking brake on if you are on an incline.
