Mark the engine mount with a pencil on the Patriot rockets as follows: First, mark is 1/2 inch from end of tube. Second, mark 1-1/4 inches from end of tube. Third, mark is 2-1/2 inches from end of tube. The thrust of the engine is transmitted to the body of the rocket through the engine mount. This part is fixed to the rocket and can be made of heavy cardboard or wood. - 2

Cut a slit using the hobby knife at the 2-1/2 inch mark on the tube. The slit must be small and no bigger than 1/8 inch. Insert engine hook into slit. - 3

Apply glue to the lines marked on each end of the tube. Spread glue applied at the end where the hook was inserted around the entire line. Very little glue is needed - less is more. At the 1/2-inch line, apply glue on either side of the hook and spread around, but not on the hook; the hook must be flexible on this end. - 4

Pop the two carboard rings out of the cardboard frame they are attached to. Pop out the two center areas that are whole. One of those rings will have a small notch in it for the lower line where the hook is. Attach the ring with the notch first, placing the notch over the hook. Slide the ring over the tube and on top of the glue that was spread around. Attach the whole ring to the top of the tube where the hook was inserted and over the glue that was spread around. - 5

Apply glue fillets to the rings to secure them to the engine mount tube. Apply a small amount of glue to the ring that has the notch. The glue must be applied where the ring meets the tube. Do not allow the glue to flow into the notch. Apply glue to each side of the ring where the ring meets the tube. - 6). Follow the same steps with the ring at the top of the engine mount. On this ring, apply the glue all the way around where the ring meets the tube on both sides of the ring.
