    Identifying Heating System Components

    • 1). Look on the passenger side of the central control console behind where the glove box normally sits. The black assembly is most of the heating system components.

    • 2). Notice the air duct that runs from the heater assembly up towards the windshield. This is the defroster duct and it directs air from the heater blower to the windshield. The duct attaches at its base to the heater housing.

    • 3). On the right side of the heater housing as you face forward in the vehicle is the blower motor. The blower motor runs at different speeds according to the fan setting heater control and pushes air into the air duct.

    • 4). Remove the screws that hold the front of the heater housing in place using a screwdriver. In the very center of the heater housing is the heater core which is a smaller version of the main engine radiator. The heater core circulates hot engine coolant from the engine and transfers this heat to the air when the blower motor and fan are turned on. Attached to the back of the heater core are an inlet and outlet hose that carry coolant to and from the engine. If you look on the engine side of the firewall you will see these hoses emerge and connect to the engine cooling system.

    • 5). Look on the front right of the heater housing and you will see a cable attached to a linkage assembly. This cable runs to the heater control panel on the dashboard and adjusts the amount of heat being transferred by the fan to the passenger compartment.
