How to Clear a Frozen Drain Hose for a Whirlpool Refrigerator
- 1). Unplug the refrigerator. Open the freezer door and allow the ice to thaw.
- 2). Remove the screws from the back cover of the refrigerator. You may need to remove the plastic covers from the screws to access them.
- 3). Find the drain underneath the evaporator fan. Plug in a hair dryer and point the hot air towards the drain to melt all the ice.
- 4). Place the hose from a wet-dry vacuum over the drain hole. Turn on the vacuum and remove all the debris from the drain line.
- 5). Bend the end of a 12 inch piece of copper wire around the end of a screwdriver.
- 6). Stick the unbent end of the wire into the drain hole, holding the bent end to prevent dropping the copper into the drain hole. Push the copper pipe into the drain line to remove any clogs. Pull the wire out.
- 7). Replace the back cover and plug the refrigerator in.
