How to Seal Rosewood
- 1). Clean the rosewood with a tack cloth to remove any impurities and to absorb any surface oil.
- 2). Paint two thin coats of dewaxed shellac, allowing the piece to dry in between coats. Follow the manufacturer's directions for drying times.
- 3). Apply a coat of tung oil to the shellacked rosewood and allow it to cure. Paint it onto the wood with a paintbrush or rub it on with a clean cloth. Apply a liberal amount and let it sit on the surface of the wood for five minutes.
- 4). Wipe off the excess tung oil and allow the rosewood to dry for at least 24 hours. If the wood feels sticky after the first 24 hours, allow it to sit another 24 hours.
