How to Tune a Guitar to C-G-C-F-A-D
- 1). Bring your guitar into standard tuning to start. Pluck your fourth string, the "D" string. Now pluck the low "E" string---the heaviest string. Play the two notes together while lowering the low "E" down to match the pitch of the fourth heaviest string, the "D" string. This brings the guitar into drop "D" tuning.
- 2). Place a finger on the fifth fret of the sixth string---the string you just dropped to "D." With your finger here, it is now a "G" note. Play the fifth string together with it, and tune them together, bringing the fifth string down to the referenced "G" note.
- 3). Place a finger on the fifth fret of the fifth string, play that note with the open fourth string and lower the pitch of the open fourth string to match the note, the "C."
- 4). Place a finger on the fifth fret of the fourth string, play that note with the open third string an d bring those two notes into pitch by lowering the open third string down to an "F" note.
- 5). Place a finger on the fourth fret (not the fifth fret) of the third string. Play that note along with the open second string; bring them into pitch together by turning the second string down to the "A" note.
- 6). Place a finger on the fifth fret of the second string. Play the note along with the open first string---the smallest string. Bring them into pitch by lowering the open small string until you have the "D" note.
- 7). Play the biggest string again open, along with the fourth string open. Bring the biggest string down to match the open fourth string, the last in the sequence, the "C" note.
