How to Hook up a Monitor to an iBook

  • 1). Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu appears. Select "Sleep" on the menu to put your iBook to sleep.

  • 2). Connect the power cable for the monitor to an outlet.

  • 3). Connect the video cable for the monitor to the wide end of the Apple VGA adapter, and connect the narrow end of the VGA adapter to the video output port on the side of the iBook.

  • 4). Turn the monitor on.

  • 5). Push the iBook's power button to turn the computer back on. The monitor displays the same content as the screen of the iBook. If the image on the monitor looks blurry or distorted, continue.

  • 6). Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences" on the drop-down.

  • 7). Click the "Displays" icon, and then click the "Display" button at the top of the window.

  • 8). Click "640 x 480," "800 x 600" or "1024 x 768" in the "Resolutions" column on the left side of the window to adjust the display resolution of the external monitor. Close the window after making the change.
