How to Plant Allium Globemaster

    • 1). Plan to plant allium bulbs in the fall where they will receive full sun all day. Cultivate the soil with a spade or shovel to a depth of about 6 inches.

    • 2). Pour half a bucket of water on the area and watch to see if it drains immediately. If it doesn't amend the soil with equal parts peat and sand until it does. The only problem allium ever has is rot from too much water.

    • 3). Examine Globemaster allium bulbs carefully before you buy. They should be firm and healthy, with no soft spots or insect damage.

    • 4). Plant the bulbs 4 inches deep, 6 to 8 inches apart, and cover with soil, tamping it down gently. Water well. Cover with leaf litter or mulch for the winter for additional frost protection.

    • 5). Look for shoots in the early spring and gorgeous blooms in early summer.
