Mercury Marine, a company headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, manufactures boat engines and stern drives. Their 100 HP (horse power) model is the MerCruiser Vazer. This is a compact engine, allowing it to fit under seats, decks, and platforms on a variety of boats. As such, it provides improved access to the water compared to outboards or other stern-drive engines. - The MerCruiser Vaser is a slanted, 4-cylinder, 98 cubic inch (1.6 liter) marine engine which provides 100 horsepower to the propeller shaft. It has a maximum of 5,600-6,000 RPM at WOT (wide open throttle). It uses multi-point electronic fuel injection to deliver fuel to the combustion chamber, which is then ignited by a distributor-less ignition system.. Fuel requirements are 87-octane gasoline.
- This engine uses a GM 1600 cast-iron engine block with an aluminum cylinder head. The exhaust header is also aluminum and is tuned to reduce back-pressure, thus allowing for increased horsepower and torque. Electrical power is supplied by a 65 amp alternator to the 12-volt, negative-ground electrical system.
- This 100 HP engine weighs 399 pounds (dry), and is 31.8 inches long, 31.1 inches wide, and 20.5 inches high. The engine slants 50 degrees, thus allowing for its low height.
