    • 1). Add water to a tea kettle or saucepan and set on the stove to boil.

    • 2). Unplug the dehumidifier's power cord from the wall outlet and raise the hinged door on the top of the appliance over the water reservoir.

    • 3). Pour 1 cup of chlorine bleach into the reservoir, then fill with boiling water. Let the bleach and water work for 20 minutes.

    • 4). Empty the reservoir into a sink by overturning the humidifier. Rinse out the reservoir with cold, running water until the smell of bleach dissipates.
