How to Cut a Taper Into Wood
- 1). Mark a rectangle on the plywood that is 6 inches wide and a few inches longer than the table leg you want to cut. Cut along these lines with a table saw.
- 2). Mark the 2-inch by 3/4-inch lumber for two 6-inch sections, using the carpenter's square. Cut along these lines with the table saw.
- 3). Position one of the 6-inch sections flush with the end of the plywood. Ensure it is sticking out the side, about half the width of the table leg. Secure with two to the plywood, using wood screws. This holds the bottom of the leg when it is pushed into the saw.
- 4). Mark a 1/4-inch by 1-inch notch in the end of the other 6-inch section of wood. Cut the notch out with the table saw. This holds the other end of the table leg at the angle.
- 5). Place the table leg flush with the bottom rest in the jig. Position the notch so that it holds the other end of the leg at the desired angle. The leg should be snug against the two 6-inch pieces of wood. Secure the top 6-inch section of wood to the plywood with two wood screws.
- 6). Adjust the table saw's guide to the width of the jig and table leg. Place the table leg between the two 6-inch sections of lumber. Push the jig and leg into the saw's blade while holding the jig with one hand and the table leg with the other.
