    • 1). Articulate the standard for success at your public school. For example, if your public school has a problem with literacy at the secondary school level, increased literacy rates constitute success. If large numbers of your students never graduate, decreased dropout rates constitute success.

Weave regular assessment meetings into your plan. Regular assessment meetings allow you to measure your actual performance against your planned performance; identify causes of failure if failure exists; and make the appropriate adjustments where necessary.

    • 3). Identify the members of your team that will help you implement your plan. If you know your team members, you can ensure success by making certain they all know your expectations and the role they play in meeting them.

Smooth out the wheel, do not reinvent it. Look at existing methods of evaluating public schools. Identify the problems with those methods so you can learn from them.

    • 5). Pick your evaluating tools. What will you use to gather the information you will need to evaluate your public school? For instance, will you have the teachers submit a monthly report? Will you have administrators perform observations?

    • 6). Know what you want from your evaluating tools. Knowing what you hope to gather with your tools will help you tailor them to fit your needs.

    • 7). Incorporate procedures for quickly responding to changing circumstances. For example, planning ahead for logistical matters frees up extra time to focus on changing needs.
