Supplies for Making Native American Church Drums
- The drum kettle is a small bucket that forms the body of the drum. The drum makes its distinctive sound when the sound waves created by hitting the drum bounce around the kettle. As of March 2011, these cost between $50 and $125.
- The drum cover is a piece of leather stretched tightly over the drum kettle. These typically cost between $25 and $30. Make sure your drum cover is the right size for your drum kettle. If you are cutting one from a larger piece of leather, you will need a leather cutting tool.
- Rope or leather lace is needed to tie the drum cover to the drum kettle. Leather laces may be cut from larger leather pieces. Alternatively, drum spot cord may be purchased for approximately $6.
