How to Drain a 20-Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater
- 1). Flip the breaker switch for the 20-gallon electric hot water heater to the "off" position at the breaker box before draining the tank.
- 2). Shut off the water valve by hand on the water line at the side of the water heater. Attach a garden hose to the water spigot at the side of the water heater near the bottom.
- 3). Stretch the garden hose out, positioning the other end in a place where the water can be drained safely. Remember the water draining out of the hose will be hot.
- 4). Open the water spigot at the bottom of the water heater where the drain hose is attached, letting the water drain out of the 20-gallon electric hot water heater completely.
